Czar's Blog #4 - Giants in town this week against Braves and the Snakes - Games available

The first quarter of the Giants’ season has been a strange, weird, trip down a rabbit hole. Many of you out there will ask me “what can I expect with a team that is picked to finish last and is in the midst of a serious re-building”?  Well,  I expect stability, well played baseball games and enjoyable evenings at the most beautiful ball park in baseball (I’m still wrapping myself around “Oracle” – is there such a thing as the curse of Larry Ellison? We might have better luck if he puts the Giants logo on his Americas Cup sailboat)

Czar's Blog # 3 of 2019 - 5 Game Home Series - Cincinnati and Toronto

It’s an interesting time in Giants land.  They are tied with the Rockies for last place in the NL West (7.5 games back of LA) but have been settling down and playing .500 or better ball over the last two weeks.  After getting hammered by the team from the Bronx, the G-Men took a series from LA, split a series on the road against Cincinnati (who comes into town tomorrow night), and right now are on the road in Colorado with the series on the line today.

Czar's Blog # 2 of 2019 - Yankees and Dodgers

Four Weeks into the Season – What can we tell at this point?

The national baseball press has written off the G-Men as too old, too slow and lacking pop.   The question is whether that is true.  At week four the Giants are 11 and 14, tied for last place in the NL West (4 games back of LA) but coming off a 4 and 4 road trip to the east coast.  That 4 games separate first from last place in the division says parity – not desperation.

Welcome to Czar's Blog #1 of 2019 - It's time for Baseball. The A's are next week to close out the exhibition schedule, followed by a ten-game home series against the Royal's, Padres and Rockies.

2019 – A Year of mystery with a New President of Baseball Operations, a CEO in Trouble and a Manager on the Cusp of Retirement

The major news of the off-season was the Giants recruiting the Dodgers President of Baseball Operations (Farhan Zaidi) to rebuild the team after an injury-marred and disappointing 2018 campaign.  Farhan came in during the off-season, evaluated the team and didn’t make that many changes. Many of the faithful (me included) believe that is because the personnel were good and 2018 was an injury-based aberration.  Farhan is a metrics and analytics guru trained by Billy Bean at the A’s who built the juggernaut now known as the Dodgers, a team (just to remind folks) that still hasn’t won it all since 1988.

Welcome to Czar's Blog #10 of 2018 - Spoiler Time

It’s that time of year when we look at the division races and realize that the Giants will come up short. There are not enough games left for any other result to be realistic. When that is coupled with the injuries (Buster, Cueto, Duggar, Samarjdiza, Panda and, today, Ryder Jones, all out for the season), the trades (Cutch for a minor leaguer) and the lack of ability to hit the ball, we are watching a slow-motion train wreck.
